ASEAN on the Move
The term “ASEAN” usually evokes thoughts of the world’s youngest population, dynamism, and newly emerging markets. From December 15, an exhibition at the ASEAN Culture House in Busan, operated by the KF, will highlight contemporary aspects of the ten ASEAN countries. On display will be the region’s unique forms of transportation, including a tuk-tuk donated by the CP Group of Thailand earlier this year through the Thai Embassy in Seoul; a jeepney from the Philippines; and a trishaw from Singapore. The tuk-tuk, a taxi made from a motorcycle, is popular not only in Thailand but also in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar. They are usually painted in bright colors to exhibit their owners’excellent sense of beauty.Along with featuring these particular modes of transportation, the exhibition will introduce common transportation apps in ASEAN countries such as Grab and Gojek, which were already popular before the introduction of Kakao T and Tada in Korea. The exhibition will also explain how the ride-hailing apps grew into corporate unicorns, while greatly easing downtown traffic and digital life for people in ASEAN countries.
