“Guerrilla Family” (Keluarga Gerilya) is among the best known works of world-renowned Indonesian author Pramoedya Ananta Toer. It depicts the life and resolve of a family’s sacrifice during the fight for the freedom and independence of Indonesia. Considered a masterpiece of Indonesian literature, the book has garnered international acclaim and has been translated into several foreign languages including Chinese, Dutch, English, German, Korean, and Russian. Author Pramoedya Ananta Toer was a famed resistance writer and intellectual who resisted the colonial rule and authoritarian political system of both the Netherlands and Japan in Indonesia. He was nominated for a Nobel Prize for literature several times and in 1995 he received the Ramon Magsaysay Award, known popularly as “Asia’s Nobel Prize.”
