전시서문

한-아세안 대화관계 수립 30주년을 기념하여 2019년 광주 국립아시아문화전당에서 개최되었던 <아세안의 빛, 하나의 공동체>전(2019.10.17-11.17)이 부산 아세안문화원에서 새로운 모습으로 선보입니다. 이번 전시는 아세안문화원과 아시아문화원(ACI, 광주 소재)의 포괄적 상호협력 관계 구축을 위한 양해각서(MOU) 체결 이후 첫번째 협력 사업입니다.
라오스 사람들은 라이 흐아 파이(Lai Hua Fai) 축제에서, 태국 사람들은 로이 끄라통(Loi Krathong) 축제에서, 가벼운 종이로 만든 풍등을 하늘로 날려 보내거나 꽃과 바나나잎으로 장식한 바구니에 촛불을 실어 강물에 띄워 보내는 등 빛과 관련된 의식을 통해 저마다의 소망을 염원해왔습니다. 미얀마의 불교 축제 타딩유트(Thadingyut) 때에는 부처님이 오시는 길을 밝히는 마음을 담아 색색의 등불로 거리를 장식하는 풍습이 있습니다. 우리의 추석과 비슷한 말레이시아와 싱가포르의 중추절(仲秋節), 베트남의 똇쭝투(Tet Trung thu), 그리고 우리의 설날에 해당하는 캄보디아의 쫄츠남(Choul Chnam Thmey)에도 거리마다 아름다운 연등을 장식하는 등불 축제가 열립니다.
이번 전시는 미디어 아티스트 그룹 사일로랩(SILO Lab)이 제작한 ‘움직이는 예술’ 키네틱미디어아트(Kinetic Media Art) 작품인 “풍화(風火)”와 “묘화(妙火)”를 통해 이러한 아세안의 빛의 문화를 소개합니다. “풍화”는 강물에 빛을 투사하며 하늘을 향해 날아오르는 아세안의 풍등을 재현하며, 백열전구 약270여개로 구성된 “묘화”는 천천히 점화하고 또 소멸하는 아날로그의 빛을 통해 아세안을 상징하는 문양들을 그려냅니다.
어둠을 몰아내고 세상 만물의 모습을 선명하게 드러내 주는 빛은 예로부터 오늘날까지 세계 어디서든 희망과 꿈을 의미해왔습니다. 이곳 아세안문화원에서 떠오르는 풍등과 점멸하는 백열전구의 율동을 바라보면서 한국과 아세안의 화합과 평화에 대한 염원을 읽어낼 수 있기를 바랍니다. ⁄ 한국국제교류재단 아세안문화원

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-ROK dialogue relations, the exhibition Light of ASEAN, One Community and Harmony, first held at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju in 2019 (October 17-November 17), is being presented at the ASEAN Culture House(ACH) in Busan. This exhibition is the first joint project between the ACH and the Asia Culture Institute (ACI, Gwangju) since the two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a comprehensive mutually cooperative relationship.
In Lao PDR and Thailand, people celebrate at the Lai Hua Fai festival and Loi Krathong festivals, respectively, by releasing paper lanterns into the sky or placing candles in baskets decorated with flowers and banana leaves to float away on the river. Through these festivals of light, people pray for their wishes come true. Other celebrations of light include Thadingyut, a Buddhist festival in Myanmar, during which it is customary to decorate the streets with colored lanterns to shed light on the pathway of the Buddha. And during Malaysia’s and Singapore's mid-autumn festivals and Viet Nam's Tet Trung Thu, which are similar to Korea’s Chuseok, and Cambodia’s Choul Chnam Thmey, similar to Seollal, lantern festivals leave the streets decorated with beautiful beacons.
Light of ASEAN, One Community and Harmony introduces celebrations such as these through the kinetic media artworks Breeze Fire and Mysterious Fire, produced by the media artist group SILO Lab. Breeze Fire presents lanterns flying into the sky and projecting light onto the surface of river. Mysterious Fire is made of about 270 incandescent bulbs and projects images symbolizing ASEAN through the slow ignition and disappearance of these analog lights.
Light casts out darkness and allow for the world to be seen clearly; it has carried implications of hopes and dreams across the globe and throughout time, from ancient days up through the present. At the ASEAN Culture House, visitors will be able to read a yearning for peace and harmony between Korea and ASEAN in the rising lights and flashing incandescent bulbs on display. ⁄ ASEAN Culture House, The Korea Foundation
