Opening Ceremony for the 2nd KF Global Citizenship

  On August 22, the Korea Foundation and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) co-hosted the opening ceremony of the second KF Global Citizenship program at Ferrum Hall, Suha-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.
  The KF Global Citizenship is an educational program composed of lectures by experts in Korean international relations designed to help Koreans more actively communicate with the world as well as for next-generation leaders and professionals to increase their competence on the international stage as citizen diplomats representing Korea.
  The opening ceremony began with Korea Foundation President Yu Hyun-seok′s welcoming remarks to the participants of the second KF Global Citizenship program, followed by HUFS President Park Chul′s congratulatory remarks. 

  President Yu, as the first speaker of the second Global Citizenship program, also delivered a lecture entitled "Public Diplomacy 3.0 - A New Direction for Korean Public Diplomacy." He explained public diplomacy and its development as a new paradigm of diplomacy to effectively cope with the current new diplomatic environment, in which the importance of soft power has been steadily increasing. He suggested that the Republic of Korea play the role of a middle power amidst such changes and introduced various activities of the Korea Foundation related to fulfilling this role.
  Meanwhile, the first KF Global Citizenship program was successfully held from June 11 to July 18, 2013 amidst huge interest, attracting approximately 200 people each week with over 100 people having completed the entire program. Through the lectures to be held over the next seven weeks, the 220 participants of the second KF Global Citizenship program are expected to have an opportunity to think about values the Korean, Asian and global level necessary for Korea to play an important role in the international community in an era of globalization.
  The second KF Global Citizenship program presents a total of seven lectures until October 2. The third program will be held in October and November.
