From October 15 to 17, 2023 the representatives of the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in the framework of the Institute’s tour to the Central Asian countries aimed on implementing the Institute’s plan titled "Transport Cooperation Plan in the Central Asia Region". During the visit several meetings were organized with the officials of the government agencies of Turkmenistan in charge of transportation, during which the ways of strengthening the interaction between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the field of transport, including the railway and automobile road cooperation were discussed.
In particular, a meeting between the representatives of the "Turkmendemiryollary" Agency and researchers of the Korea Transport Institute was held on October 16, 2023 in the headquarters of the "Turkmendemiryollary" Agency in Ashgabat. During the meeting the Korean Side informed about the future plans of the Institute regarding possible involvement of the KOTI in the development of the various transport projects being implemented in Turkmenistan.
In their turn, the Turkmen Side expressed their appreciation to the Korea Transport Institute for their deep interest in strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of railway transport, while expressing hope for continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the Korean companies in this field.
The representatives of the "Turkmendemiryollary" Agency also invited the Korean companies to take part in major projects in the railway transport industry in Turkmenistan, specifically by participating and investing in the modernization and electrification of the railways of Turkmenistan.
At the same day, the representatives of the Korea Transport Institute visited the headquarters of the “Turkmenavtoulaglary” Agency, where they held a meeting with the representatives of the Agency.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation and possible joint projects in the field of road transport.
